My health quest has recently brought me to a point where I decided that I would love to help more people achieve a better and more optimum health. Everywhere I turn somebody is suffering from some chronic illness or is unable to figure out what is wrong with them. I have recently graduated with the Holistic Health Practitioner Diploma purely for this reason. I want to be able to advise my clients on how to improve both their physical and mental health with the use of natural supplements, treatments, food as well as lifestyle changes.
So what do Holistic Health Practitioners do? Holistic health practitioners are responsible for combining different alternative health remedies to help cure or lessen problems a patient may be experiencing. Some of these alternative approaches to healthcare include yoga, Chinese medicine, reflexology, meditation, herbs, and others. You may take a hands-on approach by providing treatment using acupuncture or massage therapy or by offering nutritional counseling, stress management techniques and guided imagery to influence positive lifestyle changes that can help eliminate or reduce ailments.
How does Holistic treatment work?
Holistic treatment is used to explore the entirety of the person to find potential underlying problems of their disease or affliction and then address it with an applicable treatment.
When a client comes to a holistic practitioner, they will receive a complete evaluation, including an in-depth look into their history, lifestyle, thoughts and feelings. Then they will come up with a solution treatment available.
The holistic practitioner also finds solutions for the client to help themselves through:
- Client education for lifestyle changes or self-care
- Different therapies and treatments
- Exercise and diet change
- Spiritual counseling
- Mental health and relationship counseling

Holistic practitioner focuses on the person as a whole; body, mind and spirit and doesn’t only look into symptoms. They teach their clients how to achieve a healthier lifestyle while using herbs, aromatherapy, nutrition, exercise and other methods.
If there is a need to be treated by conventional medication, then the practitioner will refer them to the appropriate doctors for further treatment.
In today’s crazy world, we are dealing with a number of factors that impact our health and happiness. Our lives move at such a fast pace that it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. We take a narrow view of wellness. We sacrifice health to pursue wealth and the next great thing. We forget that good health is ultimately the greatest wealth, and that happiness and quality of life are intimately linked to wellness in all its facets.
Difference between Western Medicine and Holistic Health
Western doctors often focus on different parts of the body, but don’t look at the person as a whole. The holistic health solutions are becoming more popular as people realize that in order to achieve better health we need to align the entire body and mind. Although mind-body healing is thousands of years old, modern medicine has only recently begun giving it attention. Yet more and more research is showing that it is a critical piece in healing. Chances are if someone is suffering from a variety of symptoms at the same time – mental and/or physical or in succession, they are connected. To piece them out will delay a proper diagnosis and resolution.
With so many diseases on the rise, people are turning more and more to alternative therapies as well as trying to prevent diseases from happening. Even many doctors now advise patients to combine some of the holistic therapies together with the medication for a better effect. Unfortunately, many western medications don’t deal with the issue, but rather symptoms so, in the long run, they cause more harm than good. Holistic health solutions are more long-term health improvements and prevention techniques to improve ones mental and physical life.
Importance of Mental Health
Mental health is defined by the World Health Organization as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. Therefore, if you don’t have a healthy mental state it will be hard for you to live your life to the fullest extent.
When we talk about mental health, we don’t only mean the mental disorders, but the way people deal with issues and stress. It is important for us to find a way to deal with the stress of daily life because problems and issues are always there. Role of the holistic health provider here is to find the best way for the patient to cope with stress and reduce the burden it is causing on the rest of the body.
Only when looking at the person as a whole we can truly heal and improve the health. There are no quick fixes when it comes to health and we have to be determined and strong in order to achieve the results. Holistic health practitioner is there to guide the patients and show them different ways to get to optimum health, but in the end, it is the patients who need to put in the work and change their bad habits for the long-term improvement.
