I grew up thinking that some women simply have painful periods and there is nothing to do about it. I remember in my college days, the pain used to be debilitating and nothing much would help. Many of my friends and colleagues would go through awful pain, dizziness and even migraine to the extend that they couldn’t work. I always wondered why some women were so unlucky and how to prevent this from occurring. Until I started consuming lingzhi I thought it was not possible.
What causes painful periods?
Primary dysmenorrhea is the most common kind of period pain. It is period pain that is not caused by another condition. The cause is usually having too many prostaglandins, which are chemicals that your uterus makes. These chemicals make the muscles of your uterus tighten and relax, and this causes the cramps.
Secondary dysmenorrhea often starts later in life. It is caused by conditions that affect your uterus or other reproductive organs, such as endometriosis and uterine fibroids. This kind of pain often gets worse over time. It may begin before your period starts, and continue after your period ends.
Usually if you have severe pain every month, doctor will prescribe birth control pill as one of the more long term approaches, or pain medication. Of course both of these options have many side effects as well and by treating one problem, you could be causing lots of other problems to your health. Birth control bills can un stabilise your hormones completely and later it can be rather difficult to get pregnant. There have been many birth control pills which have been taken off the market after a couple of years due to its devastating side effects. Pain medication on the other hand brings a lot of burden to your kidneys and liver and it shouldn’t be consumed on the regular basis.
- Using a heating pad or hot water bottle on your lower abdomen
- Getting some exercise
- Taking a hot bath
- Doing relaxation techniques, including yoga and meditation
Most of the times these are just for temporary relief of pain, but doesn’t help long term. So how did I become completely pain period free? I started consuming lingzhi, together with bee pollen, more than five years ago. My period pain wasn’t the reason for consuming lingzhi, but it was more for overall health and to help me with my hypothyrodism. However, after around four to six months of consumption I realised I don’t get PMS and period pains anymore. How does lingzhi work?
